Whimsical Worlds
Rebecca Child is a Hastings based visual artist who studied at Brighton University for both her BA in Visual Communication design and an MA in Sequential Design.
Her arts practice is influenced by storytelling, folklore and traditional theatre crafts. With a recent focus on pre cinema technologies such as perspective theatres, magic lanterns and moving panoramas. She uses hand made, analogue methods preferring to use natural or recycled materials.
Over 2 days she worked with 16 volunteers, service users and the wider St. Michaels hospice family from ages 9-80 to produce dioramas encompassing Curious Agendas Arts Festival theme ‘Play’, in the sense that in the act of creation we were playing in our imagined worlds. “We shared stories, tea and most importantly, cake!”
St. Michael’s Hospice - supporting and enabling the community of Hastings and Rother to live well with dying, death and loss.
