“I have been in love with the art of stitch my whole life and have always used it to heal, to meditate with, to grow.”

As a practitioner, Tara has followed a very industry based and practical route and her creative, textile art practise has been very much hidden away but now she is starting my journey towards a more art based way to explore her love of sewing and textiles.

As a textile artist Tara is focused on traditional and heritage stitch crafts and is exploring the themes of grief, loss and the way cloth can form a memento mori, a way of processing feelings of sadness and a pathway to healing.

“This one off textile collage is a tactile response to the ongoing process of healing the loss of my Nan many years ago, a woman who remains an inspiration to me to this day.

Made from the quilt that she had on her bed, already an antique by then, tiny fragments are handsewn, each representing a year she has been gone. Grief isn’t a linear process, you don’t wake up one day healed but through stitching this piece I work through my sadness, it’s ebbs and flows and begin to grow through my healing.”
