Finnish Independence Day

Finnish Independence Day (its Finnish name is "Itsenäisyyspäivä") is celebrated on December 6th each year. It commemorates Finland's declaration of independence from Russia on December 6, 1917. The declaration was a significant historical event as it marked the end of the Grand Duchy of Finland's autonomy within the Russian Empire and the beginning of Finland as an independent nation.

On this day, various events and ceremonies take place throughout Finland. The President of Finland hosts a reception at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki, where prominent figures, politicians, and dignitaries gather. This reception is also broadcast on television, and many Finns watch it as part of the Independence Day tradition.
